Choosing a Photo Printer

My current printer is an HP 1340 printer, although it can perform well as my all around printer, I bought a new printer especially dedicated for printing my photos. When I bought the printer I have come up with a simple guide when choosing a printer.

Resolution
First and foremost, the most important criteria when choosing a printer is the resolution measured in dpi (or dot per inch). The dpi will determine the quality of the prints. Choose a printer that can produce photo quality prints. Typical photo printers has a resolution of about 2400 x 1200 and if your looking for the best resolution there are printers out there that can have a maximum resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi. If possible compare the print output of the printer and those printed from a photo lab.

Inks
Ordinarily printers, typically has 3 ink cartridges, but if you want your photos to really come out with those near photo quality, you can choose photo printers that have more that 3 ink cartridges, When choosing a photo printer, the more ink cartridge the better. You may also take into account the ease of replacing the inks, the price and the availability. One other thing to consider is, if the printer you are buying can take 3rd party ink especially if you are price conscious. When all know that original printer inks are very expensive.

Photo Paper
Photo printer manufacturers usually produced their own photo papers. But there are also third party manufacturers of photo papers. You should take into account the availability of third party photo papers. This may save money for you in the long run.

The camera's Shadow Adjustment Technology corrects for extreme light variations, letting you take pictures in low light conditions.

Art Filters
Art Filters lets you modify the photos to create effects. Filters include Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film and Pin Hole.

Those are some of the features that this new hybrid camera has. One more thing that is cool about this camera is that you can also record videos besides using it for photos.

Converting Color Photo to Greyscale [Method 2]

Open photo.
On the Layers palette, click the create new Adjustment Layer> Channel Mixer.Click [OK]
Tick the Monochrome check box.
Adjust the Source Channel slider RGB to create the grey scale image.

Converting Color Photo to Greyscale [Method 1]

Open photo.
Go to >Image>Mode>Lab Color.
Go to Channels palette. Select Lightness channel.
Go to Image>Mode>Greyscale.
Click [OK] to discard the other channels.

Drag and Drop Color Correction

Open several photos at once with the same lighting characteristics.
On the Layers Palette add an adjustment Layer by clicking on the Adjustment Layer icon.
Choose Curves.
Make the necessary adjustment on the shadows, midtones and highlights.
Click [OK] to confirm the adjustments.
Drag the Adjustment Layer to the other image to apply the same corrections.

Adjusting Flesh Tone

Open photo.
Press [L] to select the Lasso Tool.
Select all the flesh tone area of the image.
Go to Image>Adjustment>Hue/Saturation
Select Red from the drop down menu of the dialog.
Adjust Saturation slider.
Click [OK] to confirm adjustment.

Configuring Photoshop to AdobeRGB Color Space

Go to Edit>Color Settings.
From the Color Settings dialog. Choose North America Prepress 2 from the Settings drop down box. This will automatically select the color space to AdobeRGB.
Click [OK].

Automatic Resizing and Saving

Enter values on the Image Processor dialog.

Adding a White Border Using the Crop Tool

Open photo.
Press [D] to set background default color of white.
Press CTL [-] to zoom out.
Press [F] to see the desktop gray area that surrounds the image.
Press [C] to switch to the Cropping tool and drag out a cropping marquee border on the image.
Drag out a side handle or corner point of the marquee border outside the image. The gray area that the cropping marquee selected outside the image will become the white canvas space.
Press [ENTER] to crop.

Straightening Skewed Photos

Open photo.
Choose the Measure tool on the Photoshop toolbox. Measure the crooked line to be straightened. Go to Image menu then select Rotate Canvas. Choose arbitrary.Rotate Canvas dialog will appear with the value already inputted with the necessary angle correction.
Click [OK].
Press [C] to select Crop tool and crop to remove the white space on the photo.

Automatic Straightening and Cropping of Scanned Photos

Open scanned photo.
Go to File>Automate>Crop and Straighten Photos.
Photoshop will find straight edges on your photos and automatically crop and straighten the photos and copy each into its own separate window.

Rule of Third Cropping

Edit>Preference>Guides, Grid & Slices >Grid enter 33.3 in Gridline Every Field
Then choose percent on from the pop up menu on the right, change the default setting from 4 to 1.
Click [OK].
View>Show> Grid.
Return to your Image.
Press V to switch to MOVE tool then position the image on your desired location.
Crop image.
